About the Journal

Focus and Scope

 The mission of the Educação: Teoria e Prática journal, a publication of the Department of Education – IB and of the Graduate Program in Education at Unesp/Rio Claro Campus, is to create itself as an instrument for dialogue and discussion between teachers, researchers, education specialists, and students. Throughout its existence, it has strengthened its academic purpose with regard to the production of knowledge of an interdisciplinary nature, shifting from local to regional to national insertion, with a view to international insertion.

The professionalization of the Educação: Teoria e Prática journal comes in a continuum that is consolidated in the maintenance of its periodicity; in quantitative aspects with an increase in the number of articles/year – the annual editions changed from half-yearly to four-monthly from 2011, and from 2020 the journal adopted the continuous publication of articles; in qualitative aspects in the continuous revision of its rules of submission and evaluation; in the systematic reception of dossiers as a space for different approaches to themes that emerge as focuses of interest in contemporary debates.

Along with the presentation of standards for submission in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish, some challenging perspectives are outlined for the future in which the focus is to expand the dialogue and academic interlocution at the international level, involving institutions, authors and advisors, with a view to capturing articles by international authors; to disseminate and insert the production of authors from Brazilian institutions in Latin America; to expand the composition of a Council with members from national and international institutions in order to contribute with a broader look at the Journal's production; to expand the indexation bases, in addition to those that can be checked on the COVER. Such perspectives are intended to provide greater visibility and accessibility to educational topics on the agenda.

Publication Ethics Policy

The journal is committed to integrity, transparency, and the quality of scientific communication. Its editorial practices follow widely recognized principles of ethics in scientific publishing, aiming to ensure that the submission, evaluation, publication, and dissemination of knowledge occur in a responsible and reliable manner.

This policy guides the responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the editorial team, and establishes procedures for dealing with potential ethical issues related to scientific publication.

 

Authorship and Contribution

Authorship of articles must reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research and to the preparation of the manuscript. Authors are considered those who have significantly participated in at least one of the following stages: conception and design of the research, data collection or analysis, drafting or critical revision of the text, and final approval of the submitted version.

All authors must agree to the submission of the manuscript and assume responsibility for the published content. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors participated in the work and approved the final version of the manuscript.

Inappropriate authorship practices, such as ghost authorship, guest authorship, or honorary authorship, are not accepted. The journal requires a description of each author’s individual contributions. Changes in authorship after submission or acceptance of the article will only be considered with formal justification and agreement of all authors.

 

Complaints, Appeals, and Allegations

The journal has mechanisms to receive and analyze complaints related to the editorial process, including allegations of scientific misconduct, plagiarism, data manipulation, undeclared conflicts of interest, or problems in the peer review process.

All complaints or allegations are analyzed confidentially by the editorial team, which may request additional clarifications from authors, reviewers, or institutions involved in the research.

Authors who disagree with editorial decisions may submit a reasoned appeal to the journal’s editorial office. Appeals will be evaluated by members of the editorial team who did not participate in the initial decision, ensuring impartiality in the process.

 

Conflicts of Interest

The journal requires the declaration of potential conflicts of interest by authors, reviewers, and editors. A conflict of interest is considered any financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationship that may influence—or be perceived as influencing—the conduct, interpretation, or evaluation of the research.

At submission, authors must disclose funding sources and declare any relationships that may constitute a conflict of interest. Invited reviewers must inform the editorial office of any situation that may compromise the impartiality of the review and, when appropriate, decline the invitation to review the manuscript.

Editors must also declare themselves unable to participate in editorial decisions when there is a conflict of interest with the authors or with the content of the manuscript.

 

Data Sharing and Reproducibility

The journal encourages practices of transparency and scientific reproducibility. Whenever possible, authors are encouraged to make available the data, materials, and procedures used in the research, so as to allow verification and replication of the results.

Data may be shared through institutional or thematic repositories, or made available upon justified request. The editorial team may request access to the underlying research data during the evaluation process or after publication, if questions arise about the results presented.

Exceptions to data sharing may occur when there are legal, ethical, or confidentiality restrictions, especially in research involving sensitive information or human participants.

 

Ethical Oversight of Research

Research involving human beings, sensitive personal data, or other situations requiring ethical review must provide evidence of approval by institutional ethics committees or equivalent bodies, when applicable.

Authors must declare in the manuscript that the research was conducted in accordance with recognized ethical principles and that the necessary consents from participants were obtained, when relevant.

When doubts arise about the ethical compliance of a study, the journal may request additional documentation or submit the manuscript to further ethical review before making an editorial decision.

 

Intellectual Property and Scientific Integrity

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts submitted to the journal are original, have not been previously published, and are not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

The journal does not accept practices that violate scientific integrity, including:

• plagiarism;
• self-plagiarism or redundant publication;
• fabrication or falsification of data;
• inappropriate manipulation of images or results.

Submitted manuscripts may be analyzed using text similarity detection tools. When signs of irregularities are identified, the editorial team may request clarifications from the authors or adopt appropriate editorial measures, including rejection of the manuscript.

 

Post-Publication Discussions, Corrections, and Retractions

The journal is committed to the integrity of the scientific record and maintains mechanisms to address issues identified after the publication of an article.

Depending on the nature of the problem, different editorial measures may be adopted, such as:

• corrections (errata or corrigenda), when errors are identified that do not compromise the validity of the results;
• expression of concern, when there are indications of significant problems still under investigation;
• retraction of the article, when there is evidence that the results are invalid or that scientific misconduct has occurred.

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions will be published transparently, clearly identified, and linked to the original article, ensuring the integrity and traceability of the scientific record.

 

Editorial Commitment

The journal reaffirms its commitment to responsible editorial practices, transparency in the peer review process, and the promotion of integrity in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Authors, reviewers, and editors are invited to actively collaborate in maintaining these principles, contributing to the strengthening of the reliability and quality of scientific literature.

 

Submission Guidelines
The journal Educação: Teoria e Prática does not charge for submission. If the article is approved, an APC (Article Processing Charge) of R$ 650.00 will be charged to cover operational costs, which include: maintenance of digital infrastructure, editorial management, payment for XML and DOI (items required by some indexers), among others. Articles authored by faculty, students, and/or technical-administrative staff from Unesp are exempt from APC payment.
At the time of submission, the following items are mandatory:
• File to be evaluated, without author information, including Word properties, in accordance with the provided templates – article or review. The use of the template is mandatory. Simply download the file and insert the text into the template, ensuring that ALL items are included.
• Authorship declaration. At least one of the authors must hold a PhD degree. Authors must include, in the authorship declaration file, a mandatory statement regarding the use of AI, specifying (if applicable): the name(s) and version(s) of the tool(s) used, the section(s) of the text in which the tool was employed, and the purpose of its use.
If authors wish to publish in a second language, they must provide the translation after approval.
