PROTECTED ÁREAS: STUDY ABOUT PERMANENT PRESERVATION ÁREAS MANAGEMENT

Abstract

This paper has the purpose to approach important issues about protected areas, with particular emphasis on Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs), mainly forest gallery, with emphasis in municipality limits, including the role of environmental policy (in national, state and municipality areas) concerning protected areas management. Also, it was showed problems caused by the absence or inefficiency of environmental planning in rural and urban areas, their consequences, as well suggestions to reverse degradation process in which some Permanent Preservation Areas presented, in cearense´s municipalities, with case study of Cocó River Basin. The perception that there is an urgent need to promote maintenance of geographic areas with the goal for preserving and conserving biodiversity must be under environmental assessment, which take into account variables from system, in way for contributing decision-making concerning environmental management, in ecological approach, where these variables are connected to function of ecosystems, their structure and their behavior face to potential hazards. A continuous articulation of environmental management and urban planning tools for ensure sustainability process and maintenance of environmental quality is suggested. Keywords: Protected Areas.
