Abstract
The objective of this study is to question women’s choice to work out at gyms which are exclusive for women. Information from literature allows us to find women working out at women-only gyms since the first half of the 20th century. To collect the empirical information we worked over a ten multiple question questionnaire. This instrument was answered by seventy five women in two women-only gyms both located in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. The results make us consider that the proliferation phenomenon of all-women gyms is tied with the type of relations that women establish with their partners, with the masculine look in general and with other women, in the contemporary society.
