Abstract
The sports training sets itself as one of the most important ways to achieve mastery sports, which includes the physical preparation, technical, tactical and psychological, that often ends up being neglected. Therefore, we tried to investigate the emotional states present in practice sports, and the importance of psychological training in performance. This search method used as a case study of an athlete of high level of the sport slalom canoeing. For data collection chosen by the technique of life history, investigated through a semi-structured, with subsequent analysis of content. As results we have seen the presence of different emotions (positive and negative) in practice sports investigated, which could directly influence the performance of individual sports. This finding allows us to affirm the necessity of employment of psychological training for this type of athlete can achieve greater efficiency and mental and physical balance.

    Mestre em Ciências da Motricidade Humana, UNESP-RC. Atualmente é professor da Universidade Vale do Rio Doce - UNIVALE/MG e líder do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas em Educação Física - NEPEF desta instituição. É membro pesquisador do LEPESPE - Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas em Psicologia do Esporte e do LEL - Laboratório de Estudos do Lazer, ambos da UNESP/Rio Claro. Tem experiência na área de Educação Física, com ênfase em Psicologia do Esporte , Esportes de Aventura na Natureza e Estudos do Lazer, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: estados emocionais, psicologia do esporte, esportes de aventura/natureza, lazer e vivências lúdicas.
