Abstract
Insulin administration has been used by athletes to improve the performance and increase the muscle mass. Thus, the aim of present study was to investigate the metabolic adaptations in rats submitted to swimming training associate to administration of insulin. At the end of the experimental period the rats were sacrificed and blood was collected for determinations of insulin and glucose. Samples of liver and muscle tissue were used to evaluate glycogen, protein and DNA contents. The results indicate that training associate to insulin promotes significant protein mobilization in the control-trained and trained-insulin groups and may reveal an important long- time metabolic adaptation.
