Abstract
This study’s objective is to describe the attitudes that 5th to 8th grade female students have about physical education with respect to the following aspects: class enjoyment, attributed importance of subject matter, perceived benefits, preferences, and relative importance to other issues. An open- and closed-question questionnaire was administered to a sample of 151 female students. Physical education is strongly associated to sport, although dimensions of play, movement, and competition seem more important than do specific contents. Perceived benefits are related to body development, while, simultaneously, the content that is liked and disliked more than others is sport. It was concluded that female students perceive physical education peculiarly and ambiguously, and have favorable attitudes related to it, at least with regard to class participation.
